Justice League Battle for Metropolis is the main attraction of the Metropolis area at Six Flags Magic Mountain and arguably the most thematic and cinematic ride in the entire park. On this ride, you join the Justice League as they fight various iconic DC villains in the city. Justice League Battle for Metropolis is an interactive arcade shooting ride where riders try to get the most points by shooting the most targets. You compete against your ride companions to achieve the highest score on the ride.

Justice League: Battle for Metropolis Queue Experience

Justice League Battle for Metropolis is in a building designed after the Justice League Hall of Justice. Like in the comics, riders will see the Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman statues and flags with the Justice League’s virtues they fight for hanging on the walls.

Superman appears on the screen above the closed doors leading into the next room. He tells riders about the situation in Metropolis, stating that Lex Luthor and the Joker are taking out the Justice League members by exploiting their weaknesses. Batman appears and says that Joker is wreaking havoc on the city while Luthor takes them down one by one. Green Lantern, Flash, and Supergirl have been captured, with only Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, and Cyborg as the only heroes remaining. For that reason, the Justice League needs the rider’s help to beat back the villains.

The Joker and Lex Luthor interrupt Batman’s comms and explain their side of the story for why they want to capture the Justice League. Joker intends to release his laughing gas in the city, but Lex Luthor wants only to defeat the Justice League.

Batman regains control of the comms and warns riders against Harley Quinn. Superman appears and tells riders to go through the doors to meet up with Cyborg.

In the next room, a life-size animatronic Cyborg gives riders the rundown on the ride. On it, riders will have laser guns that can stun Joker’s minions and deactivate Lex Luthor’s robots. Like a videogame, when a rider successfully shoots a target, they get points.

Joker and Lex Luthor appear on the screen above Cyborg, with the Joker asking Luthor if he can sell Cyborg for scraps. Joker then says he will release his new laughing gas in the city, causing the citizen brigade (the riders) to become useless. The screen then returns to normal.

Cyborg tells riders to go through the doors to receive their safety goggles (3-D glasses) and to get the antidote to Joker’s laughing gas. Two doors open, one for standard riders and one for single riders. From there, it is a straight line to the ride vehicles.

Justice League: Battle for Metropolis Ride Experience

Justice League Battle for Metropolis begins with riders leaving the station and entering the first room, where they find the Joker complaining about being shot by the stun guns all day. He commands Harley Quinn to attack the riders, and she does. Superman swoops in from above and grabs the Joker. Lex Luthor appears and blasts Superman with his Kryptonite laser, knocking him away. Lex grabs the knocked-out Superman and tells Joker he’s taking him away to Lexcorp. Joker tells the riders to follow him to the next area.

In the next room, riders find an animatronic Joker sitting in a rigged buggy with a cannon. He tells the riders it was a bad idea to follow him and then blasts them with his laughing gas (smoke). Joker shoots again but misses, causing a small (actual) fire to ignite near the riders. Riders spin in circles, eventually getting to the next room designed to look like Lexcorp’s entrance. Two of Joker’s goons appear and shoot a missile at the riders.

Riders turn around to find the closed doors of Lexcorp. Cyborg attempts to open the doors as riders continue shooting at the screen in front of them. The batmobile appears, being attacked by the Lexbots on screen. Cyborg manages to get the doors open as Batman jumps out of the vehicle and praises the riders for stopping the Lexbots. They continue through the Lexcorp doors.

Lex Luthor appears and proclaims the riders as his enemies and says they’ll feel the full force of his plasma blast. Riders continue forward and enter a room with two animatronic Joker goons shooting at the riders. They tip a shelf full of Luthor barrels at the riders that stop right before it falls.

In the next room, riders find the captured Justice League members who call them for help. After shooting at their restraints, Flash, Green Lantern, and Supergirl escape. Luthor flies away after being attacked by Batman. Riders continue to shoot at the Lexbots as Flash spins and creates a tornado destroying the rest.

The next room involves a motion simulator experience where riders drive through Metropolis chasing after the Joker and watching as the Justice League battle the remaining villains. The chase takes riders through the streets of Metropolis, the subway system. Harley Quinn then appears and drops the riders off of the top of a skyscraper, but they are rescued by Green Lantern, who creates a bridge leading to safety. At the bottom, the Justice League has won the day by capturing Joker and Lex Luthor.

Here, riders will see who scored the highest in the ride vehicle. The winner is then compared to the all-time high scores. The riders then return to the station, ending the ride.

#29 – The Riddler’s Revenge

The Riddler’s Revenge, located in the Metropolis area of Six Flags Magic Mountain, is a standup rollercoaster with high speeds, multiple inversions, and a significant drop.

The Riddler’s Revenge Ride Experience

The Riddler’s Revenge begins with riders getting on the train. The train consists of eight rows with four “seats” per row. Riders do not sit on this ride. Instead, they stand with a rest that sits between their legs. An over-the-shoulder restraint comes down for safety. Each seat has armrests for riders to relax their arms during the ride.

After all the riders are secured, the train leaves the station and begins climbing the 156 ft chain lift hill. At the top of the hill, a slight left turn pre-drop leads to the 146 ft drop. Riders reach a maximum speed of 65 mph before experiencing the first inversion, a 124 ft vertical loop. Riders then go over the next two inversions, left then right dive loops.

The train then continues forward to the fourth inversion, an incline loop, followed by a sharp right turn that leads to a brake run. Riders drop immediately after the brake run and go over the fifth inversion, a left-turn corkscrew.

Riders make a wide left turn past a brick building with green window panes, then a right turn, followed by a left turn that takes them past the ride station. Past the ride station and over the queue, riders go over the sixth and final inversion, a corkscrew. Riders make a wide right turn that leads to the last brake run that takes them back to the ride station, ending the ride.

The Riddler’s Revenge Height Requirements

Riders must be at least 54″ to ride the Riddler’s Revenge.

The Riddler’s Revenge Average Wait Times

You can expect a 5-10 minute wait for this ride.

#30 – Gold Rusher

Gold Rusher at Six Flags Magic Mountain is one of the oldest rides in the park. It originally debuted on opening day in 1971, making it the first rollercoaster at Magic Mountain. Gold Rusher is not categorized as a kid’s ride even though there are no inversions and the speed is relatively low. However, compared to the other rollercoasters in the park, Gold Rusher is a much more relaxing experience. With the long runtime and lack of intensity, Gold Rusher is the perfect ride for first-time rollercoaster riders.

Gold Rusher Ride Experience

Gold Rusher begins with a left turn out of the station, past the queue, and through the train storage area. Riders then make a quick right turn up a chain lift hill that ends under a bridge. Riders go over a bump under another chain lift hill before making a wide right turn past Full Throttle’s vertical loop and arriving at a second chain lift hill.

Riders then go past the station for Superman: Escape from Krypton and under the tracks for that ride. The train makes a wide left turn into a slight incline, then a right turn that brings the riders to a brake run. The brake run ends with a sharp left turn then the train continues forward until it makes a U-turn. Riders go down a hill and then make a right turn leading to a wide downward helix reaching the max 35 mph speed. At the end of the helix, the track levels out and brings riders up a hill to a final brake run that leads back to the station, ending the ride.

Gold Rusher Height Requirements

Riders must be at least 48″ to ride Gold Rusher.

Gold Rusher Average Wait Times

You can expect a 0-5 minute wait for this ride.

The Underground

#31 – Jet Stream

Jet Stream is the oldest flume water ride at Six Flags Magic Mountain, opening in 1972. The main feature of this water ride is the final drop, where you can expect to get wet.

Jet Stream Ride Experience

Jet Stream begins after riders get into their flume boats modeled after jet skis. Each flume has the capacity for four riders, each sitting in front of the other. Riders leave the station from the turntable loading area and make a wide left turn that leads to the light blue track that takes them to the conveyor belt hill. At the hill’s peak, an S-shaped pre-drop takes riders into a barn that hides the first drop.

After the drop, the speed of the water increases. From this point, riders travel quickly, passing by Ninja’s tracks and under Jet Stream’s conveyor belt hill. Eventually, riders arrive at the final 50 ft drop, which may cause riders to get wet, though not soaked. Riders slowly make their way back to the station, ending the ride.

Jet Stream Height Requirements

There is no height requirement to ride Jet Stream.

Jet Stream Average Wait Times

You can expect a 5-10 minute wait for this ride.

#32 – Dive Devil

Dive Devil is a thrill swing ride that will make you feel like you’re flying at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Dive Devil is not a rollercoaster but an activity you can experience at the park. To ride Dive Devil, you must pay an additional fee.

Dive Devil Ride Experience

Dive Devil starts with riders (3 max) strapping into the harness held by a bungee cord connected to the top of the structure. Riders are instructed to link arms with the other passenger, so they are locked together. Ride operators then secure the riders safely so that the rider’s legs and midsection cannot move at all. Once the riders are safely secured, the harness is rotated, so they are now lying on their stomachs.

After an all-clear, the riders are lifted into the air approximately 150 ft. Then, one of the bungee cords releases, dropping the riders 50 ft before swinging them forward, simulating sky diving or flying and reaching a max speed of 60 mph. Riders swing back and forth until the momentum ends. A ride operator lifts a circular, signaling the riders to grab on so that the operator can bring the riders back to the center of the arches, where they are brought down to the ground, ending the experience.

Dive Devil Height Requirements

Riders must be at least 48″ to ride Dive Devil.

Dive Devil Average Wait Times

You can expect a 0-5 minute wait for this ride.

#33 – Pacific Speedway

Pacific Speedway is go-kart racing at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Unlike the Tomorrowland Speedway at Disneyland and Disney World, the Pacific Speedway is an actual race where riders control all aspects of the kart. However, another way the Pacific Speedway differs from those other rides is that it costs an additional fee to participate.

Pacific Speedway Ride Experience

The Pacific Speedway track takes participants near the Dive Devil and under West Coast Racers. The race will either be intense or noneventful, depending on how many racers there are. Because Pacific Speedway costs extra to ride, only a few people usually go on it at a time. Riders are also not allowed to bump other racers or swerve during the ride. They must abide by those rules while racing or risk being removed from the ride without a refund.

Races usually last around 6 minutes (or six laps) as long as there are no accidents.

Pacific Speedway Height Requirements

Racers must be at least 40″ to ride Pacific Speedway.

Pacific Speedway Average Wait Times

You can expect a 0-5 minute wait for this ride.

The All-Day Pass costs $20 (price may vary due to sales and discounts).

#34 – West Coast Racers

West Coast Racers at Six Flags Magic Mountain is arguably the park’s flagship ride as of today. It is the coaster used in most of Magic Mountain’s advertisements and is one of the first rides you will find when you search “Six Flags Magic Mountain” online.

According to Six Flags, West Coast Racers is the world’s first dueling single-track rollercoaster with four launches. It also has four inversions and reaches a max speed of 55 mph. West Coast Racers isn’t as intense as some of the other rides at Six Flags Magic Mountain, which makes it the perfect coaster for those that want to experience inversions for the first time.

West Coast Racers Ride Experience

West Coast Racers begins by leaving the launch station on the white track. To the left, another train on a yellow track appears. At the same time, both trains launch, reaching a speed of 55 mph. After the launch, riders immediately enter the ride’s first inversion, a zero-g stall, which causes the riders to interact with the yellow track train. Immediately, riders enter the second inversion, a zero-g roll. Riders go over an airtime hill which leads to the second launch.

The second launch brings riders to the third inversion, a zero-g roll. Riders then make a wide left turn followed by a wide right turn, with both turns paralleling the riders on the yellow track. Another airtime hill followed by a wide right turn brings riders into a replica garage fashioned after the West Coast Customs shop, where riders watch a short video featuring Ryan Friedlinghaus. During this video, a new set of riders are getting on their train on the other side of the garage (which you cannot see).

After those riders are safely secured, both trains exit the garage. The train you are on is now on the yellow track. The ride relaunches, taking riders through the circuit once more. The yellow track is identical to the white one, with the same inversions happening simultaneously. At the end of the circuit, the train returns to the white track, back at the station ending the ride.

West Coast Racers Height Requirements

Riders must be at least 54″ to ride West Coast Racers.

West Coast Racers Average Wait Times

You can expect a 30-45 minute wait for this ride.

#35 – Apocalypse

Apocalypse is a wooden ride at Six Flags Magic Mountain that may not have any inversions, but that doesn’t stop it from being thrilling. On paper, Apocalypse does not have the fastest speed at Magic Mountain, but while on the ride, you’ll think there isn’t a faster ride at the park.

Apocalypse Ride Experience

Apocalypse begins with riders making a left turn out of the station that leads to the 95 ft chain lift hill. At the top of the hill, the train makes a short, downwards left turn, reaching the top speed of 50 mph. The riders drop and then make a wide right turn into a path of airtime hills. Riders ascend on a right turn, then drop on a left turn that leads into a wide right turn tunnel.

The train exits the tunnel on a left turn, followed by a sharp right turn that leads into a hill that takes riders through a short tunnel. Riders exit the tunnel on a drop that leads into a left-turn tunnel that takes riders to a right-angled drop leading to a wide right turn. This right turn leads into a wide left turn that takes riders to a brake run. The brake run slows the train to a stop before it continues forward at a slow speed, taking riders to an empty covered area, where the train stops for around 20 seconds. After continuing forward, the riders arrive back at the station, ending the ride.

Apocalypse Height Requirements

Riders must be at least 48″ to ride Apocalypse.

Apocalypse Average Wait Times

You can expect a 5-minute wait for this ride.

Samurai Summit

Enrich yourself in the area themed after the folklore and mythology of Japan, where you will see architecture inspired by famous temples built during the Edo Period. At Samurai Summit, you will find two groundbreaking rides to experience, Ninja and Superman: Escape from Krypton.

#36 – Ninja

Ninja is a swinging, suspended rollercoaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain that is the fastest of its kind in the world. On Ninja, the train is separated into multiple cars that can hold up to four riders. Each car is suspended by a swinging system connected to the track above. During Ninja, each turn causes the riders to swing to the side, sometimes with so much force that they will feel like they go upside-down, even though there are no inversions on the ride. Since there are no inversions, Ninja is one of the most approachable rollercoasters in the park.

Ninja Ride Experience

Ninja begins with riders leaving the station and going up the 60 ft chain lift hill. At the top, there is a short pre-drop before riders drop 85 ft, with the difference in hill height and drop length due to part of Ninja taking place on a hilltop. After the drop, riders reach the max speed of 55 mph during a wide left turn. After the turn, the train makes a sharp right turn, making the cars swing to the side.

Riders make a wide left turn near Jet Stream’s plunge, followed by a leftwards drop that ends over the lake. Riders make a wide right turn under Jet Stream’s conveyor belt hill, then another right turn over the lake once more. The train makes another left turn, followed by a right turn that leads to a brake run. After the brake run, riders go up a final chain lift hill that takes them back to the station, ending the ride.

Ninja Height Requirements

Riders must be at least 42″ to ride Ninja.

Ninja Average Wait Times

You can expect a 5-10 minute wait for this ride.

#37 – Superman: Escape from Krypton

Superman: Escape from Krypton is a high-speed multi-facing reverse freefall coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Though the ride is incredibly short, lasting only 28 seconds, it is by far the fastest ride in the park, reaching a maximum speed of over 100 mph.

It is also one of the tallest rides in Magic Mountain as it shares the tower with Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom, standing at 415 feet. In addition, Superman: Escape from Krypton has an equally long drop, taking riders down 328. Overall, this is one of the park’s shortest but most intense rides. If you are looking for a shot of adrenaline, this is the perfect ride for you.

Superman: Escape from Krypton Ride Experience

There are two versions of the ride that people can choose to experience. The first version of the ride is the forward-facing experience, where riders go up the rise facing forward but ends with riders dropping backward. The second is the backward-facing experience, where riders go up the rise backward but drop facing forward.

Both experiences begin the same, no matter which version you choose. After being safely secured in the train, riders launch out of the station going 0-104 mph in 7 seconds. Riders go up the hill (backward or forward) at a 90-degree angle. After reaching 415 feet, riders drop 328 ft (forward or backward), then slowly return to the launch station, ending the ride.

Superman: Escape from Krypton Height Requirements

Riders must be at least 48″ to ride Superman: Escape from Krypton.

Superman: Escape from Krypton Average Wait Times

You can expect a 10-20 minute wait for this ride.

Rapids Camp Crossing

Rapids Camp Crossing is a nature-themed area at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Inspired by American campgrounds, at Rapids Camp Crossing, you’ll find one of the best water rides in the park, Roaring Rapids, and Tatsu, the record-breaking dragon-themed rollercoaster.

#38 – Tatsu

Tatsu at Six Flags Magic Mountain is one of the world’s fastest, tallest, and longest flying coasters, making it one of the most thrilling rides in the park. With four inversions, a height of 172 ft, a 111 ft drop, and a maximum speed of 62 mph, Tatsu will make you feel like a flying dragon.

Tatsu Ride Experience

Tatsu is a flying coaster, meaning that while on the ride, riders face downward to simulate flight. When riders first get onto the train of Tatsu and sit in their seats, they will pull down on the overhead restraint to secure themselves safely. There are also leg restraints for the riders to keep their legs from dangling during the ride. After all the passengers are secured, the seats will rotate forward 90 degrees so that each passenger will face the ground. Then, the ride begins.

The train leaves the station and begins the ride with an S-turn that takes riders to the 172 ft tall chain lift hill. At the top of the hill, riders drop 111 ft on a downward right turn, bringing them to the max speed. Riders make a slight upward right turn that leads into the first inversion of Tatsu, a 102 ft tall corkscrew. Riders fly downward on a left turn, then upward, leading into the ride’s second inversion, a 96 ft zero-g roll.

Riders then swoop down, creating the illusion of flying over the nearby sidewalk before entering the 80 ft horseshoe. The train makes a slight left turn and enters Tatsu’s third inversion and record-breaking main element, the 124 ft pretzel loop. Riders then make a slight left turn that leads into the fourth and final inversion, an inline twist, followed by a 135-degree drop on a right angle. From there, the train enters a brake run. Following the brake run, riders turn slightly left and then go over a final brake run that leads riders back to the station, ending the ride.

Tatsu Height Requirements

Riders must be at least 54″ to ride Tatsu.

Tatsu Average Wait Times

You can expect a 10-15 minute wait for this ride.

#39 – Roaring Rapids

Roaring Rapids at Six Flags Magic Mountain is one of the oldest river rapid rides in America, originally opening in 1981. It remains one of the best water rides in the park, considering it’s the only ride where you are guaranteed to get soaked. Roaring Rapids is the most theme-appropriate ride in Rapids Camp Crossing, making it the main attraction for this section of Magic Mountain.

Roaring Rapids Ride Experience

Roaring Rapids features a 12-person, circular raft with a round metal handrail to hold on to during the ride. Below the rail is a smaller metal footrest that riders can use to keep their feet off the ground to help prevent their feet from getting wet from the incoming pool of water that forms in the raft after being hit by waves.

The ride begins with the raft leaving the station and entering the wide river, causing the raft to spin slowly. The raft approaches the first set of rapids, causing a small wave to enter the boat, slightly wetting the riders who hit the rapids backward.

The raft continues forward (or backward, depending on the rider’s seat) before hitting a wall, allowing the raft to make the U-turn of the river’s bend. After the U-turn, more rapids approach, causing the riders who are backward to get wet.

Following this, the rapids get faster as the riders approach two bumps in the river that cause the raft to bend down, creating a wave of water that enters the raft, soaking those backward riders. The river stabilizes again before the riders get to the third set of rapids that create a wave that soaks the riders as they make contact.

The river makes another turn that leads to the biggest rapids of the ride, which soaks all passengers. After that, riders pass a waterfall and make a left turn that leads to a conveyor belt that takes riders back to the station ending the ride.

Roaring Rapids Height Requirements

Riders must be at least 42″ to ride Roaring Rapids.

Roaring Rapids Average Wait Times

You can expect a 10-20 minute wait for this ride.

When is Roaring Rapids Open at Six Flags Magic Mountain?

Baja Ridge

Baja Ridge at Six Flags Magic Mountain is the desert-themed area of the park. Here, you will find the world’s first 4D ride, X2, and the ride with one of the most inversions at Magic Mountain, Viper.

#40 – Viper

Viper at Six Flags Magic Mountain is a standard steel rollercoaster in the Baja Ridge section of the park. It is one of the fastest coasters in the park, with a maximum speed of 70 mph, due to the massive 171 ft drop. It contains seven inversions throughout the ride and a long, 2:10 duration making it well worth getting on.

Viper Ride Experience

Viper begins with the train immediately leaving the station and entering the 188 ft chain lift hill, which leads to the 171 ft drop on a left turn. Due to the drop, riders reach a maximum speed of 70 mph. After the drop, riders enter the ride’s first inversion, a 144 ft vertical loop. The train then makes a wide left turn which leads to the second and third inversions, both vertical loops.

The train then goes over a short mid-course brake run that ends with a wide, downward left turn that leads into a batwing element which consists of a half corkscrew followed by a half loop. Riders then make a low right turn on their side, leading into a half loop and half corkscrew double inversion element.

The track levels out, and the train continues forward at a slower speed until it makes a downwards left turn followed by a right turn into the final brake run and a U-turn that brings riders back to the station, ending the ride.

Viper Height Requirements

Riders must be at least 54″ to ride Viper.

Viper Average Wait Times

You can expect a 5-10 minute wait for this ride.

#41 – X2

X2 is a Four Dimension rollercoaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain. A four-dimension rollercoaster is unique in that the train has multiple cars that can flip 360 degrees forward and backward separately from each other. Though there are only two inversions on the track, you can expect to be flipped upside down multiple times without warning throughout the ride. The ride also reaches 76 mph due to the 215 ft drop and 175 ft chain lift hill. Because of these elements, X2 is different from all the other coasters at Magic Mountain and is one of the most intense you can experience at the park.

X2 Ride Experience

X2 begins with the train leaving the station with riders facing backward. Riders make an immediate left turn leading to the 175 ft chain lift hill. At the top, riders enter a pre-drop which takes them up approximately 15 more ft to a max height of 190 ft. At the top, the rider’s seats flip up to face the sky. Riders then drop 215 ft, reaching the max speed of 76 mph. During the drop, the seats flip so that riders face the ground.

After the drop, the train goes over a raven turn where riders are flipped to now face forward. Riders then go over a hill where the seats flip 360 degrees to simulate a backflip. The train then makes a wide downward right turn followed by a fan turn and half-twist where the riders flip to their back, facing the sky.

Riders face backward for a few moments before they go over another raven turn, bringing them forward again. After a half-twist, riders flip for a final time so that they face backward and finally arrive at a brake which brings them back to the station, ending the ride.

X2 Height Requirements

Riders must be at least 48″ to ride X2.

X2 Average Wait times

You can expect a 10-15 minute wait for this ride.

The New Revolution Plaza

#42 – The New Revolution – Classic

The New Revolution is one of Six Flags Magic Mountain’s most historically important rollercoasters. Opening in 1976, The New Revolution is widely considered the first modern rollercoaster to feature a vertical loop, the most common inversion on all rollercoasters today. It is not a stretch to say that the modern-day theme park is what it is today, thanks to the New Revolution.

The New Revolution Ride Experience

The train leaves the station and begins going up the 113 ft chain lift hill. At the top, riders drop 85 ft and immediately ascend a hill, slowing the train. Riders drop and then ascend at a left angle before the track levels out, followed by another drop on a left angle that also ascends and brings the train to a brake run. At the top of the mid-course brake run, there is a sign that tells riders to “place heads against headrests.”

At the end of the brake run, riders slowly drop and enter the historic vertical loop. After the loop, the train makes a left turn, goes over another brake run, and then makes a right turn into a tunnel. After exiting the tunnel, the train slowly continues through the center of the vertical loop. The train then makes a right turn that leads to yet another brake run, then a wide left turn that brings riders to the final brake run that leads back to the station, ending the ride.

The New Revolution Height Requirements

Riders must be at least 48″ to ride The New Revolution.

The New Revolution Average Wait Times

You can expect a 5-10 minute wait for this ride.
