#1 – Despicable Me Minion Mayhem

The first of the Universal Studios Florida rides is Despicable Me Minion Mayhem. Despicable Me Minion Mayhem is a 2-D simulation ride that turns you into a minion and puts you through a series of tests to see if you have what it takes to become one of Gru’s helpers.

As Minion Mayhem is a simulation ride, there are no tracks involved that will move you from location to location. Instead, your seats move with what occurs on the IMAX screen in front of you. When the characters on screen move left, your seats move left with them. When they fall, your seats lean you forward to simulate the sensation. Everything that happens on screen, your seats are synchronized to follow.

Despicable Me Minion Mayhem simulates falling, climbing, jumping, and running. In other words, this is a very motion-heavy ride. Like all simulation rides, motion sickness is a strong possibility after experiencing the ride.

Despicable Me Minion Mayhem Height Requirements

As this is a kid-friendly ride, the height requirements are 40 inches, and kids under 48 inches must have an accompanied person for entry.

Also, if you prefer to experience Minion Mayhem like a movie rather than a ride, that is possible. There are stationary seats available that do not move. Motion sickness is still possible due to the first-person perspective of the ride.

Despicable Me Minion Mayhem Average Wait Times

Since Despicable Me is one of the most popular animated franchises, it should be no surprise that the wait times for this ride are very long. You can expect between an 80 to 100-minute wait for Minion Mayhem.

#2 – Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit

The second of the Universal Studios Florida rides is the first on track rollercoaster, The Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit. The Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit is the first thrill outdoor rollercoaster you’ll see when you enter Universal Studios Florida. The steep incline is the most defining characteristic of the ride that will immediately draw your attention.

At a verticle incline of 167 ft, you’ll feel like you are lying on your back while you are taken to the top before the drop, reaching a max speed of 65 mph.

What makes the Rip Ride Rockit unique is the boarding process of the ride and your ability to choose what music is playing in the background on the ride.

When you pass the entry bars to get onto the Rockit, you have around 30 seconds to strap yourself in and choose your chosen song from a little touch screen connected to your seat before the ride begins its ascent.

The song selection genres range from rock, electronic, country, rap, and pop.

Some songs include:

  • “Bring Me to Life” by Evanescence
  • “Intergalactic” by Beastie Boys
  • “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” by The Charlie Daniels Band
  • “Insane in the Brain” by Cypress Hill
  • “That’s the Way (I Like It) by KC and the Sunshine Band

In addition, there is a secret menu that expands the list of songs. By holding down the ride logo on the touch screen for 10 seconds, a 10-digit keypad will appear, allowing for a 3-digit code to choose your secret song.

Some songs from the secret menu include:

  • Code: 112 “Free Bird” by Lynard Skynyrd
  • Code: 128 “Vertigo” by U2
  • Code: 301 “Float On” by Modest Mouse
  • Code: 310 “Vogue” Madonna
  • Code: 901 “Moving Right Along” by The Muppets

You can find the complete list for the secret song menu by clicking the button below!

This rollercoaster, however, may not be suitable for those less experienced with coasters. Multiple inversion loops, sudden drops, and sharp turns happen throughout the ride. The ride may be intense for some people who have a fear of heights or dislike the feeling of falling.

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit Height Requirements

There is a minimum/maximum height requirement as well as maximum weight restrictions as well. Riders must be between 51 and 79 inches (or 4’4 and 6’7) to ride the Rockit. Riders with a waistline of 40″ or greater may not ride the Rockit either. There is a test seat at the entrance that allows you to determine whether you are suitable or not for the ride.

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit Average Wait Times

Typically wait times for the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit are between 65 and 110 minutes.

#3 – Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon

The third of the Universal Studios Florida rides features Jimmy Fallon. Race Through New York with Jimmy Fallon is a 3-D simulation ride that is just one random string of events after another.

Race Throught New York Starring Jimmy Fallon Queue Experience

Interestingly, the best part of this ride may be the queue. The first part of the queue acts as a sort of museum for all the past NBC “Tonight” shows. You’ll see props and suits from shows hosted by Jimmy Carson, Conan O’Brien, Jay Leno, and Jimmy Fallon.

Then, before you enter the main auditorium, you’re given a pre-show hosted by Fallon starring live performers who sing and dance to a few songs. Next comes one of the best ride warnings you’ll ever get; a rap performance from the Roots about all the cautions and restrictions.

The queue for this ride is a much better experience than the queues for many of the other Universal Studios Florida rides.

Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon Ride Experience

The actual ride is one random series of events after another. You start by racing Jimmy Fallon through his studio, then through the streets of New York, until you go under a subway and get hit by a train. Then you meet with Fallon, who throws a pizza at you only to say that you will fly the rest of the race.

You fly for a bit before going underwater, almost to get eaten by a shark. You fly out of the water, head to the Statue of Liberty, and then to the Empire State Building, only to find a giant Hashtag, the Panda (a character you meet during the pre-show) imitating King Kong.

He grabs you and throws you to the moon, where you see the Roots playing some music. You float to the first lunar rollercoaster, which then shoots you back to Earth, where you land at Jimmy Fallon’s studio and win the race that ends the ride.

Motion Sickness on Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon

As this is a 3-D simulation ride, many of the scenes use the classic in-your-face tropes that old 3-D movies used to use. Since not many 3-D techniques are properly utilized in the ride, most scenes feel like gimmicks rather than anything spectacular.

The simulation, however, is as good as Minion Mayhem. Every movement is exaggerated, making this simulation ride feel like a rollercoaster. Because of that, even more than Minion Mayhem, you must prepare yourself for motion sickness.

The 3-D elements, in addition to the simulated movement, can easily make someone feel sick.

Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon Height Requirements

Like Minion Mayhem, the height requirement for the ride is at least 40″.

Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon Average Wait Times

Typically, wait times for Race Through New York with Jimmy Fallon are between 35 and 60 minutes.

#4 – Revenge of the Mummy

The fourth of the Universal Studios Florida rides takes you to Egypt. Revenge of the Mummy is a high-speed, high-intensity indoor rollercoaster based on the Mummy franchise starring Brendon Fraser.

The ride will put you in complete darkness as you are chased by mummies, scarabs, and other creatures awoken from an ancient Egyptian curse you unleashed by entering the tomb.

The ride mixes practical and special effects to create an intense but exciting atmosphere. The beginning of the ride features an animatronic, talking mummy but afterward moves to use screens to visualize the monster. You’ll ride under various large neon light illuminated structures of Egyptian symbols; then, you’ll stop to experience the ride’s best feature, a real fireball that shoots above you.

Though the darkness paired with the mummy elements may be scary for some riders, this may be the best “adult” rollercoaster for kids. The ride has no inversions or twists, like Incredible Hulk or the Rip Ride Rockit. However, it does have another feature that neither of those rides has; it shoots you backward at high speed.

Because this is a real track rollercoaster, motion sickness is not something that often happens on the Mummy. There are also no high vantage points on the ride, so a fear of heights will not be a problem.

Revenge of the Mummy Height Requirements

Like the Rip Ride Rockit, there is a height requirement of 48″. Also those with a waistline of and above 40″ may not be able to ride this rollercoaster.

Revenge of the Mummy Average Wait Times

Typically wait times for the Mummy are 60 minutes.

#5 – Transformers: The Ride – 3D

The fifth of the Universal Studios Florida rides may be more than meets the eye. Transformers is a semi-on-rails simulation ride that puts you in the middle of a battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons in a fight for the Allspark.

Where Despicable Me and Jimmy Fallon are simulation rides in a single auditorium, Transformers instead moves you to multiple rooms with separate screens to enhance the immersive experience of the ride.

Each room is designed to correspond with the events happening in the simulation to make it feel like you are in the battle with the Autobots. This technique is later used in other more advanced rides throughout the park.

Transformers the Ride Simulation Effects

In Transformers, simulation of flying, falling, driving at high speeds, and spinning are the main motions you will experience on the ride. Most of the ride vehicle’s motions sway you back and forth while you watch the short clip, and when the scene ends, the vehicle moves you to another room where the following sequence plays.

Because Transformers is a 3D simulation ride, motion sickness is a possibility. Be prepared for dizziness and nausea after the ride ends.

Transformers The Ride Average Wait Times

Typically, wait times for Transformers is 45 minutes.

#6 – Fast and Furious – Supercharged

The sixth of the Universal Studios Florida rides is all about family. The Fast and the Furious is a semi-on-rail simulator ride that takes you on an over-the-top high-speed chase with Dom and his family.

Unlike the other simulator rides in Universal, Fast and the Furious uses the tour bus simuation system similar to the short simulation sections of the backlot tour at Universal Studios Hollywood.

Fast and furious Supercharged Ride Experience

During the ride, you take a short ride on a tram vehicle deeper into the building, where eventually you arrive in a room where screens surround you. The vehicle is then connected to machines that will shake you to simulate the ride’s motion. Strong gusts of wind are blown into you at all times to mimic high-speed winds.

The highlight of the ride isn’t the simulation or the chase. The story’s absurdity and terrible acting from the franchise’s main cast make it an unintentionally hilarious ride.

Here are some highlights:

  • An FBI agent threatens to shoot one character being humiliated by the Rock with a machine gun with Dom and Letty posing on a car in the background.
  • Dom riding on the back of a semi-truck at what seems to be over 200 mph.
  • An attack helicopter shooting rockets at you one second and then five seconds later appears again with Dom holding on to the railings flying with it.
  • The ride ends with everyone flying off a highway, crashing down to the ground hundreds of feet below, and surviving.

Fast and Furious Supercharged Average Wait Times

This ride is worth going on for the absurdity alone if the wait isn’t over 30 minutes. Typically, the wait for Fast and the Furious is around 30 minutes.

#7 – Hogwarts Express – King’s Cross Station

The seventh of the Universal Studios Florida rides will take you on a magical journey across the park. The Hogwarts Express – King’s Cross Station in Universal Studios Florida takes guests from Diagon Alley to Hogsmeade in Islands of Adventure.

Hogwarts Express: King’s Cross Station Queue Experience

The experience begins in the queue as you walk through King’s Cross Station until you eventually make your way to Platform 9 and 3/4. Immediately, you feel as if you are in London from the announcements (spoken in a British accent) telling of imminent train departures and the British advertisements on the walls.

The baggage lined against the walls signals that you are getting closer to your destination. After a short walk up some stairs, you eventually reach the famous magical brick wall that signifies the entrance to Platform 9 and 3/4. Looking through the magic glass, it will appear as if the other guests in front of you are walking straight through the brick wall and disappearing to the other side.

In reality, there is no brick wall. Instead, a narrow tunnel takes you onto Platform 9 and 3/4, where the Hogwarts Express awaits you to take you to Hogsmeade.

Music from the film plays overhead as you walk on the Platform. It’s a magical experience that makes you feel like you are entering the Wizarding World, reminiscent of the scene from the Sorcerer’s Stone.

The Hogwarts Express is a beautifully crafted, full-size steam train identical to the one in the Harry Potter films. Cast members will guide you to a small train compartment able to fit six or so guests at a time.

When the doors close to your compartment, the ride begins. The windows on both sides of you, one looking outside the train and another into the hallways, are screens that help create an immersive experience for the ride.

Hogwarts Express: King’s Cross Station Ride Experience

On the outside, you’ll see various locations from the Harry Potter films, including London, the Riddle Mansion, the Forbidden Forest, and Hogwarts. You’ll also come across Hagrid, Death Eaters, and the Weasly Family car.

Inside the train, you’ll hear Harry, Ron, and Hermione walking through the halls and talking about various things. A dementor also breaks onto the train only to be hit by a Patronus spell cast by Harry.

The ride ends when you reach Hogsmeade, both on the train and in reality. Stepping off the Hogwarts Express and into the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is one of the most incredible experiences you can have at any theme park.

Hogwarts Express: King’s Cross Station Average Wait Times

Typically, wait times for the Hogwarts Express – King’s Cross Station from Diagon Alley to Hogsmeade is 40 minutes.

#8 – Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts

The ninth of the Universal Studios Florida rides continues your journey in the Wizarding World. Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts is a mixed roller coaster and 3-D simulation ride that takes you to the famous wizarding bank, Gringotts. You’ll work with Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Bill Weasley as you hunt for a hidden Horcrux, only to be pursued by Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange. To survive your encounter, you’ll have to find some way to escape the depths of the bank.

Harry Potter and the Escape From Gringotts Queue Experience

The queue for Escape from Gringotts is one of the most detailed and impressive lines on a rollercoaster. The experience starts before you even enter the line.

Escape from Gringotts is Diagon Alley’s main attraction, evident by how much effort Universal put into the obvious and subtle details of the interior and exterior of the ride. The ride immediately stands out from the rest of the stores and buildings in Diagon Alley because of the life-size dragon sitting on top of the building. You may even see the dragon blow out a fireball.

Once you enter Gringotts, you will immediately see why some call this one of Universal’s flagship rides, similar to Disney’s Rise of the Resistance. With marble flooring and walls, blue marble pillars lining the entryway, and multiple giant crystal chandeliers, the decadence of the lobby alone is enough to display what type of high-quality ride experience you are about to have.

Animatronic goblins sit atop stands throughout the lobby, busy working on whatever task Gringotts has them doing. Past the head goblin, you eventually enter the bank where you’ll see moving newspaper clippings describing Harry Potter as Undesirable Number 1, signifying that the ride takes place during the Deathly Hallows movie.

You and your party will then enter a small room where you will get your picture taken for clearance into the bank vaults (really, this is the ride photo you can purchase later). In another room further down, Harry, Hermione, and Ron disguised with a Polyjuice potion, discuss their plans for finding the Horcrux.

After a short simulated elevator ride and deeper into the bank is the loading zone for the ride. You will get your 3D glasses and be assigned to a cart.

Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts Ride Experience

On Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, you’ll experience both rollercoaster elements and simulation ride sections. Like on Transformers the ride, the basic premise is that you are taken from room to room where you’ll watch a short immersive movie where your cart interacts with what is shown on screen.

Unlike Transformers the ride, on Escape from Gringotts, on-rail high-speed rollercoaster elements take you from room to room. You can expect sudden high drops into darkness, sharp turns, spinning, and backward riding at high speeds on this ride.

Because of the 3-D elements and the simulation parts of the ride, motion sickness and dizziness are a strong possibility for you after Escape from Gringotts. The motion sickness from this ride might be enough to end your day early at the park.

Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts Height Requirements

Height requirements for the ride are 42″, and those under 48″ must be supervised at all times.

Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts Average Wait Times

Escape from Gringotts is Universal Studios Florida’s most popular ride, so you can expect wait times to be long. Typically, the wait for this ride is a minimum of 80 minutes and up to 160 minutes.

#9 – Men in Black Alien Attack!

Men in Black Alien Attack is a shooter ride that tests your accuracy with a laser gun.

Like Disney’s Buzz Lightyear Alien Blasters, Universal’s Men in Black Alien Attack gives the rider a laser gun and tasks them with shooting as many aliens as possible on the ride.

The ride then gives the guest a score based on their accuracy. The more targets they hit, the higher the score. If you ride with someone, it becomes a competition of who can get the highest score.

The ride has two sections. The first is a sort of practice round. Identical to the famous shooting range scene in the first film, you’ll be tasked with shooting alien targets to practice your accuracy.

Immediately after, a warning of an alien invasion comes, and you’ll move to the city where large, animatronic aliens will be around every corner. Unlike in Buzz Lightyear, there are no targets on the aliens; the entire alien is the target.

At the end of the ride, you’ll encounter a giant alien that acts as a point increaser to boost your score.

Men in Black Alien Attack Average Wait Times

Men in Black is one of the most interactive rides in Universal Studios Florida, so it has a long wait time. You can expect a 35-55 minute wait for Men in Black Alien Attack.

#10 – The Simpsons Ride

The Simpsons Ride is arguably the best purely simulation ride in this section of the park. If the purpose of a simulation ride is making you feel like you are in the story, the Simpsons ride does that wonderfully.

The story of the Simpsons ride is that they are on a trip to Krusty Land, a theme park built on a nuclear plant in Springfield. In typical Simpsons fashion, things don’t go as planned. Sideshow Bob wants revenge against Krusty the Clown and to kill the Simpsons, so he sabotages the park. Now, the Simpsons have to survive their trip to Krusty Land, and you go along for the ride.

What makes the Simpsons ride work is that it feels like you are in an episode of the Simpsons, and even though a lot happens quickly, it all makes sense.

Throughout the ride, you end up in many locations that parody various theme park attractions from multiple parks. You ride on a simulated rollercoaster, go through a Pirates of the Caribbean ride (with a dinosaur twist), a Shamu whale show from Seaworld, and then eventually, you fly through the town of Springfield. Then, the ride finishes with a famous Simpsons couch gag. A lot happens, but when it’s all put together, it works perfectly (unlike Fast and the Furious).

However, as the Simpsons Ride is a pure 3D simulation ride, like many other Universal Studios Florida rides, motion sickness is a strong possibility from this ride if you have a sensitive stomach.

This ride simulates spinning, dropping, falling from high places, going backward and upside down, and practically every motion that could cause someone to want to throw up.

The Simpsons Ride is not gentle. You will feel every twist, turn, and spin that it puts you through, and it’s nonstop for the entire duration.

The Simpsons Ride Height Requirements

The minimum height requirement for the ride is 40″, but those under 48″ must be supervised.

The Simpsons Ride Average Wait Times

Wait times for the Simpsons Ride are usually between 60 and 75 minutes.

#11 – Kang & Kodos’ Twirl ‘n’ Hurl

Kang and Kodos’ Twirl and Hurl is Universal Studios Florida’s aerial carousel ride.

Like other similar rides (Dumbo and Astro Oribitor in Disney World), the Twirl ‘n’ Hurl takes you into the air and flies you around in a circle. On this ride, your aerial cart is an alien spaceship.

Like most aerial carousels, the rider can move the spaceship up and down by utilizing the joystick in the vehicle. It’s a short, fun ride that’s perfect for kids of all ages.

Kang and Kongos’ Twirl ‘n’ Hurl Average Wait Times

Typical wait times for the Twirl ‘n’ Hurl are 35 minutes.

#12 – E.T Adventure

E.T. Alien Adventure is Universal Studios Florida’s only indoor dark ride that is loosely based on the Steven Spielberg film, E.T Extra-Terrestrial.

This ride shares many features from other famous indoor dark rides from other parks while having unique elements that make it stand out from the others.

E.T Alien Adventure Ride Experience

E.T. Alien Adventure has three distinct sections that feel like three separate rides. The first section, the beginning, is a recreation of the scene in the movie when Elliot and his friends escape the government agents on their bikes with E.T.

On E.T., your vehicles are single-rider bikes from the ’80s, and like in the movie, you eventually begin to fly. The second section of the ride is similar to Peter Pan’s Flight in Disney World, where you fly over London on that ride. On E.T, instead, you fly over a model recreation of the San Fernando Valley to the famous John Williams soundtrack.

The third section of the ride is entirely original and acts as a “what-if” ending to the movie. What if Elliot and his friends go to E.T.’s planet? On the ride, you do. During this part, you see E.T.’s entire family (who sing and speak English) and the colorful alien plants and animals unique to the planet.

The ride ends with E.T saying your name and goodbye.

E.T Alien Adventure Average Wait Times

Typically, the wait for E.T. Alien Adventure is 45 minutes.

#13 – Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster

Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster is a short children’s on-rail rollercoaster that is perfect for those who are new the thrill rides.

This ride consists of two wide turns and a very slow drop that is not scary. The Nuthouse coaster is, by far, the shortest ride in the entire park, but it may be perfect for those little ones who may be afraid of other coasters.

For example, if you have kids and one of them is afraid to go onto E.T., take them on the Nuthouse Coaster while you wait for the rest of your party. Depending on how short the line is for the Nuthouse coaster, you’ll be able to ride it twice before the rest of your party get off of E.T.

Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster Average Wait Times

Typically, the wait for Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster is 20 minutes.

Additional Attractions (playgrounds) for kids:

#14 – Curious George Goes To Town

Curious George Goes to Town is a playground/splash pad for kids that recreates the town from the book series. There are a ton of things to do that little kids will find fun, like spraying people with a hose, playing on a playground, dumping buckets of water on people, and even a ball factory.

#15 – Fievel’s Playland

Fievel’s Playland is a playground/splash zone for kids between E.T. Alien Adventure and Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster. It has large slides, jungle gyms, and things to run over and under, all inspired to make you feel as small as a mouse.
