The Flash Vertical Velocity (Six Flags Discovery Kingdom) is an inverted impulse rollercoaster in the park’s DC Superhero Comics Land. The Flash is California’s only rollercoaster of this type. At 150 ft tall, along with Medusa and Superman, it’s one of the three tallest rides in the park. With a launch speed of 0-60 mph, it has the fastest launch in Six Flags Discovery Kingdom.
Ride Experience for THE FLASH Vertical Velocity (Six Flags Discovery Kingdom)
On The Flash Vertical Velocity, riders sit in upright seats with over-the-shoulder restraints (OTSR) that come down for safety. The rider’s legs dangle in the air throughout the ride.
The Flash Vertical Velocity begins with riders launching from 0-60 in 3 seconds up the 150 ft vertical incline. Halfway through the only inversion on the ride, an inline twist, a lack of momentum brings riders back down the 90-degree incline. Riders travel backward through the launch station and up the back 150 ft vertical incline to around the halfway point.
Riders drop, go through the launch station again at 65 mph and back up the vertical incline, clearing the inline twist and reaching the top of the 150 ft dead-end track. At the top, riders go backward through the inline twist, down through the launch station, and up the second vertical incline.
Riders drop again at a slower speed, go through the launch station and back up the vertical incline. This time, they only clear the inline twist before slowly dropping, stopping at the launch station, and ending the ride.
Height Requirements for THE FLASH Vertical Velocity (Six Flags Discovery Kingdom)
Riders must be at least 54″ to ride The Flash Vertical Velocity. Guests 75″ and above may not ride this attraction.

Why is the Flash at Discovery Kingdom closed?
The Flash Vertical Velocity only operates during the Spring and Summer season and is closed during the off-season (Fall and Winter). However, if The Flash is closed during either Spring or Summer, this may be due to maintenance.
