The Super Guide to Six Flags Over Texas Rides

Six Flags Over Texas Batman Ride

Six Flags Over Texas

Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington, Texas, is the first Six Flags theme park built in America. After visiting Disneyland for the first time in the 1950s, Texas real estate mogul Angus G. Wynne Jr. thought his home state should have a theme park like Disney. Ten years later, in 1961, Six Flags Over Texas opened. Today, Six Flags has 16 theme parks and many more water parks under the name Hurricane Harbor. Yet, Six Flags Over Texas will always be the first.

Today, Six Flags Over Texas has 45 attractions, with 13 being rollercoasters. In this guide, all 45 rides will be covered in detail, providing you with important information like ride experience and descriptions, wait times, height requirements, and maybe the most vital part of your trip: whether the ride is operational or not. Six Flags has a strict seasonal schedule, meaning some rides may not operate depending on the month.

Each ride will be categorized by location so that when navigating Six Flags Over Texas during your trip, it will be easy to refer back to this guide and find each ride quickly.

Star Mall

Star Mall is the first pavilion you will find upon entering Six Flags Over Texas. This area is named Star Mall for its iconic star-shaped fountain. It is also one of the oldest sections in the park since it’s been there, essentially unchanged, from opening day to today. Star Mall is home to one the oldest rides at Six Flags Over Texas, the Silver Star Carousel.

The Silver Star Carousel is one of the most iconic rides at Six Flags Over Texas. Originally made in 1928, the Silver Star Carousel is a classic ride suitable for guests of all ages. You can pick from various antique handcrafted horses to ride or sit on one of the few benches during the approximately 3 minute and 30 second experience.

If you visit Six Flags Over Texas during the winter season, the Silver Star Carousel has a beautiful winter theme, dubbed the Silver Star Christmas Carousel. During this time, festive white and red lights hang during the ride while Christmas music plays in the background.

Silver Star Carousel Height Requirements

There are no height requirements for the Silver Star Carousel.

Silver Star Carousel Average Wait Times

You can expect a 0-5 minute wait for the Silver Star Carousel at Six Flags Over Texas.

Mexico & Spain

The Mexico and Spain section of Six Flags Over Texas represents the time both Mexico and Spain controlled Texas. This area celebrates the Mexican and Spanish cultures, with the rides and buildings taking on themes related to those countries. The Mexico and Spain pavilion is home to six rides ranging from rollercoasters to water rides. You can also find Mexican restaurants with Tex-Mex in this area if you are looking for a tasty break from riding the rides.

#2 – El Sombrero

El Sombrero is a backward-spinning ride at Six Flags Over Texas that takes riders up and around in the air. The interesting aspect of El Sombrero is that, like its name, the ride’s shape is like a sombrero, and the direction the ride moves is in the form of the sombrero’s large brim. At least, that’s what Six Flags Over Texas was going for in their design of the ride. In reality, the ride tilts up and down as riders go around backward in a circle for approximately 1 minute.

El Sombrero Height Requirements

There is no height requirement to ride El Sombrero.

El Sombrero Average Wait Times

You can expect a 0-5 minute wait for this ride.

#3 – La Fiesta De Las Tazas

La Fiesta De Las Tazas at Six Flags Over Texas is a classic teacup ride where you control how fast and how much you spin.

La Fiesta de las Tazas Ride Experience

Each teacup comes with a wheel in the center of the cup, allowing riders to control their speed during the ride. The faster they turn the wheel, the faster the riders spin during the ride. Likewise, if the riders decide not to turn the wheel, they will not spin.

In addition, each teacup rotates around the large center kettle during the ride while also spinning in a smaller, contained circle simultaneously. These three different spins make La Fiesta de las Tazas one of the most dizzying experiences in the park.

La Fiesta de Las Tazas Height Requirements

There is no height requirement to ride La Fiesta de las Tazas.

La Fiesta De Las Tazas Average Wait Times

You can expect a 0-5 minute wait for this ride.

#4 – Conquistador

Conquistador at Six Flags Over Texas is a swinging boat ride based on the Spanish Conquistadors of the 1500s who came to the Americas on their warships. On Conquistador, riders swing back and forth high into the air to simulate what it may have felt like to go up and down the giant waves of the Atlantic Ocean.

Conquistador Height Requirements

There is no height requirement to ride Conquistador.

Conquistador Average Wait Times

You can expect a 0-5 minute wait for this ride.

#5 – La Vibora

La Vibora is a unique rollercoaster at Six Flags Over Texas, as it is one of only three in the world. La Vibora is a trackless, bobsled rollercoaster more akin to a giant, waterless waterslide than anything else.

La Vibora Ride Experience

Each bobsled (ride vehicle) contains three rows with single rider seats lined one after the other. If one of the riders is around 42 inches, the minimum height requirement, they are allowed to sit directly in front of their companion rider and share the single seat. Lap bars come down for safety.

The ride begins as riders leave the station and go up a 60 ft chain lift hill. After the hill, the track transitions to a large, yellow, downward-curving slide. Riders go down the curving slide at approximately 32 mph, making multiple wide turns on the path until they return to the station ending the ride. La Vibora’s ride duration is about 1 minute and 30 seconds.

As La Vibora has been in operation since 1986, it is easy to see the path the bobsled takes during the ride due to the indentions made on the slide over the years. Besides an outer red and black paint job to make the slide look more like the Coral Snake, no updates or changes have been made to this ride.

La Vibora Height Requirements

Riders must be at least 42 inches to ride La Vibora at Six Flags Over Texas.

La Vibora Average Wait Times

You can expect a 5-10 minute wait for this ride.

#6 – El Diablo

El Diablo is a loop coaster at Six Flags Over Texas which means that the entire ride is one repeating inversion, a continuous vertical loop.

El Diablo Ride Experience

Riders go through the approximately 100 ft loop twice in a forward-facing direction. In the third rotation, the train stops midway through the loop while passengers are upside-down and begins to move backward. From there, the train moves through the loop backward two times before returning to the starting position, ending the ride.

El Diablo Height Requirements

Riders must be at least 48″ to ride El Diablo.

El Diablo Average Wait Times

You can expect a 5-10 minute wait for this Six Flags Over Texas ride.

#7 – El Aserradero

Flume water rides are one of the most common and beloved water rides you can find at any theme park worldwide. From Splash Mountain at Disney World to Timber Mountain at Knotts Berry Farm, flume rides are a favorite at all parks. Only at Six Flags Over Texas can you ride the first flume ride ever built. El Aserradero at Six Flags Over Texas is the world’s first flume ride.

El Aserradero Ride Experience

Because El Aserradero is the world’s first flume ride, you shouldn’t expect animatronics or other theming like on some of the more advanced versions of this type of ride. Instead, El Aserradero is more like a proof of concept for the flume ride archetype. It has all the essential elements you would expect on a flume ride, like a tall drop and, of course, the log boat.

El Aserradero begins with riders leaving the station and traveling to the short conveyor belt hill that leads into a small wooden cabin. Riders drop a few feet out of the cabin and continue down the winding river. Riders eventually pass El Vibora and arrive at the larger, second conveyor belt hill. Riders drop down 30 ft into the flume river below, which creates a wave, wetting riders. The log takes riders back to the station, ending the ride.

El Aserradero Height Requirements

There are no height requirements to ride El Aserradero at Six Flags Over Texas.

El Aserradero Average Wait Times

You can expect a 5-10 minute wait for this ride.

When does El Aserradero Open?

Since El Aserradero is a water ride, it only opens during the Spring season (March) to the end of the Fall season (October 31st) with Fright Fest.

Texas

Between 1836 and 1845, Texas was its own country, known as the Republic of Texas. This section of Six Flags Over Texas is based on that time period.

#8 – Sidewinder

Sidewinder is a classic Scrambler spinning ride at Six Flags Over Texas. The basic concept of a scrambler ride is that riders spin in two directions simultaneously. All riders are put in three groups of three cars connected to a center gondola.

Each cluster of cars spins at a fast speed in one direction while the gondola continuously rotates in the opposite direction. This two-point spin creates a centrifugal force experience for the riders.

The ride duration for Sidewinder is approximately 3 minutes and 10 seconds.

Sidewinder Height Requirements

Riders must be at least 36″ to ride Sidewinder.

Sidewinder Average Wait Times

You can expect a 0-5 minute wait for Sidewinder at Six Flags Over Texas.

#9 – Titan

Titan is not only the tallest and fastest ride at Six Flags Over Texas; it is one of the tallest and fastest hypercoasters in the United States. Titan is the flagship ride for Six Flags Over Texas and is a must-ride for all rollercoaster fans visiting the park for the first time.

Titan Ride Experience

Titan begins with riders leaving the station and turning right toward the 245 ft chain lift hill. After about a 50-second climb, riders drop 255 ft, reaching a top speed of 85 mph, and enter a 120 ft underground tunnel. Riders exit the tunnel and climb a large right-angled turnaround hill before dropping. The train then goes over an airtime hill before beginning a 540-degree upward helix that ends with a midtrack brake run that slows the train to a near stop.

After the brake run, riders drop to the left and then make a wide turn to the right, leading into a downward 570-degree helix. The train exits the helix and makes a wide turn to the left, followed by a wide turn to the right that takes riders to the final brake run that brings them back to the station, ending the ride.

Titan Height Requirements

Riders must be at least 48″ to ride Titan.

Titan Average Wait Times

You can expect a 10-20 minute wait for this ride.

#10 – Texas Railroad (Texas Depot)

The Texas Railroad: Texas Depot is one of two stops on the classic 1961 train ride that takes riders on a scenic trip around Six Flags Over Texas. From the Texas Depot, riders travel to Boomtown by taking a route through the Texas and Tower portions of the park.

Texas Railroad Average Wait times

You can expect a 10-15 minute wait for this train ride.

#11 – Boot Scootin’

Boot Scootin is a bumpy, kids Jump Around ride in the Texas section of Six Flags Over Texas. During this ride, riders sit in boot-shaped vehicles and go around in a circle, occasionally bouncing up and down. Boot Scootin’s duration is approximately 1 minute and 30 seconds.

Boot Scootin’ Height Requirements

There are no height requirements to ride Boot Scootin’.

Boot Scootin’ Average Wait Times

You can expect a 0-5 minute wait for this ride.

#12 – New Texas Giant

The New Texas Giant is the tallest and fastest hybrid wooden and steel rollercoaster at Six Flags Over Texas. Originally known as the Texas Giant, this ride operated from 1990-2009 as a wooden coaster. After changing to a steel track system, the New Texas Giant increased the maximum speed and height from the original Texas Giant layout.

New Texas Giant Ride Experience

New Texas Giant begins with the train leaving the station and turning right towards the 153 ft chain lift hill. After a 30-second climb, riders make it to the top of the hill with a sign that reads, “Wait, let’s discuss this.” On the top of the sign are the American and Texas flags.

Riders drop 147 ft at a 79-degree angle, reaching the max speed of 65 mph. The train goes over a small hill that leads into a 90-degree overbanked left turn, a small drop, and then a 95-degree left turn. Following this is another sharp 115-degree overbanked turn that leads to a small airtime hill that brings riders to a midcourse brake run.

Riders drop from the brake run on a left angle, then go over a series of airtime hills along with multiple directional changes. After this, the train enters a tunnel called the “Angus Oil and Gas #61 shaft,” lit by a few blinking colored lights. Riders exit the first tunnel, then enter a second tunnel, and then the third and final tunnel that has a sign that says “Adios!”

After exiting the third tunnel, the train goes over a final section of airtime hills that end with the last brake run that takes riders back to the station, ending the ride.

New Texas Giant Height Requirements

You must be 48″ to ride the New Texas Giant at Six Flags Over Texas.

New Texas Giant Average Wait Times

You can expect a 10-20 minute wait for this ride.

With the slogan, “Take a trip down memory lane,” Chaparral Antique Cars is simply a slow, on-rails, guided drive down a wooded course. It’s the perfect opportunity for kids of all ages to get behind the wheel.

Chaparral Antique Cars Average Wait Times

You can expect a 5-10 minute wait to ride Chaparral Antique Cars at Six Flags Over Texas.

#14 – Pirates of Speelunker Cave

Pirates of Speelunker Cave is a water/dark ride at Six Flags Over Texas. This attraction is an update to the classic Speelunker Cave ride that ran from the 1960s to the 1990s. It features the classic characters from the original ride with a new story involving a ghostly pirate crew, mermaids, and a sea witch. Though the story could make more sense, and the animatronics are outdated compared to other theme parks, it’s the best you’ll get at a Six Flags park if you want the dark ride experience.

Pirates of Speelunker Cave Ride Experience

Pirates of Speelunker Cave begins with riders entering the cave with a sign saying, “Pirates be warned.” In the cave, riders see skeletal pirates locked up in cages. A voiceover introduces the riders to Captain Moregold and his crew, who escape the jail. Captain Moregold finds a treasure map to Speelunker Cave and goes off with his skeleton crew to find the treasure.

On their way to the treasure, their pirate ship gets caught in a storm. During the storm, a giant squid attacks and capsizes the boat. The pirates awaken in Speelunker Cave. They meet beautiful mermaids who show them giant pearls and other riches. The pirates eventually find treasure, but a sea witch protects it. They defeat the sea witch and claim the treasure, but Speelunker Cave holds more secrets to discover.

Deeper into the cave, the pirates (and riders) come across ancient giant-headed statues of alien creatures. A stone skull with glowing green eyes is a final warning to the riders and the pirates to turn back. The pirates and riders continue forward and drop deeper into the cave, where they meet the ancient civilization known as the Spees.

The Spees are a friendly group of creatures who love singing and dancing. They spend their days with family in their homes and living in peace while mining the unending diamond supply from their cave.

Captain Moregold, the evil pirate he is, claims the Spees’ treasure for his own. Moregold and his crew attack the Spees, but the creatures turn out to be more than capable of defending themselves. The Spees overpower Captain Moregold and his crew due to their teamwork and creativity and eventually disarm and capture the pirates. The Spees celebrate their victory with more music, dance, and dress up in the pirates’ clothes. The ride ends with the Spees taking the pirate’s treasure and remarking on their fun adventure.

Riders exit the cave and return to the station, ending the ride.

Pirates of Speelunker Cave Height Requirements

There are no height requirements to ride Pirates of Speelunker Cave at Six Flags Over Texas.

In the France area, you will find the indoor rollercoaster Runaway Mountain.

#15 – Runaway Mountain

Runaway Mountain is an indoor rollercoaster at Six Flags Over Texas that takes place in complete darkness. Every twist, turn, and drop will surprise the riders as they traverse the course. Runaway Mountain has a maximum speed of 40 mph and a height of 65 ft, but the darkness makes the ride feel much faster than it is. There are no inversions on Runaway Mountain, so it is an excellent rollercoaster for kids.

Runaway Mountain Height Requirements

Riders must be at least 48″ to ride Runaway Mountain.

Runaway Mountain Average Wait Times

You can expect a 5-10 minute wait for this ride.

USA

The USA section of Six Flags Over Texas represents modern-day Texas as part of the United States of America. #16 – Justice League: Battle for Metropolis

Justice League Battle for Metropolis is a 3D dark/arcade shooting ride at Six Flags Over Texas that features prominent figures of the DC Universe, including Batman, Superman, the Joker, and Lex Luthor.

Justice League Battle For Metropolis Ride Experience

As an arcade shooting ride, during Justice League Battle for Metropolis, riders travel to multiple rooms with screens. Each screen will play a video with the Justice League fighting villains. Riders must shoot at the villains with their provided laser guns during the videos.

During the ride, each rider is given a score determined by their performance. The more accurate the rider was with their shots and the more targets they hit, the higher their overall score. Each rider competes with one another to get the highest score in their vehicle, which can hold a total of six riders.

At the ride’s end, each rider’s total score is shown, and the winner is compared with the day’s high score.

The total duration of the ride is approximately 3 minutes and 30 seconds.

Justice League Battle for metropolis Average Wait Time

#17 – Aquaman Powerwave (Coming Soon)

Aquaman Powerwave is an upcoming water rollercoaster ride at Six Flags Over Texas set to open in 2023.

Aquaman Powerwave Ride Experience

Aquaman Powerwave starts at the station, but a turntable moves the riders to the center of a two-pronged track that sits on top of an empty splash pool. The train moves backward until it gets around halfway up the back track, forward over a small hill, and then up to the top of the front track.

The train moves backward again back over the small hill at a fast speed and then to the top of the 146 ft back track at an approximate 90-degree angle. Then it drops, reaches the top speed of 62 mph, and crashes into the now filled splash pool, creating a huge wave that drenches all riders.

The train stops in the center of the track, where the turntable replaces the riders with another train by moving the riders back to the station and ending the ride.

Aquaman Powerwave Expected Opening Date

Summer 2023

Aquaman Powerwave Height Requirement

Riders must be at least 48″ to ride Aquaman Powerwave.

#19 – Six Flags Speedway Go Karts (Additional Fee)

The Six Flags Speedway is a go-karts race available in the Tower section of Six Flags Over Texas. 15+ cars can race around the course at once, but that is a rare occurrence. More than likely, if you decide to ride the Six Flags Speedway, no more than five people will race against you and your family. Because of the additional fee, less people are likely to participate in the Speedway at the same time.

Six Flags Speedway Go Karts Additional Fee Price

To ride the Six Flags Speedway, participants must pay an additional fee of $10 for a single ride or $20 to ride as many times as they want for the day.

Six Flags Speedway Go Karts Height Requirement

Riders must be at least 58″ or above to drive the single-passenger go-kart. Otherwise, riders must be at least 40″ to ride as a companion in a two-seater go-kart. Both the two-seater and single-seater go-karts have a maximum speed of 18 mph.

#20 – Shock wave

Shock Wave at Six Flags Over Texas is one of the oldest operating rollercoasters in the park. First launching in 1978, Shock Wave, to this day, has one of the world’s highest G-Force levels, topping at 5.9 Gs. Though it may not be one of the fastest rollercoasters in the park, nor the tallest, it is still one of the most intense you can experience at Six Flags Over Texas.

Shock wave Ride Experience

Shock Wave begins with riders leaving the station and moving directly to the 116 ft chain lift hill. After about a 35-second climb and a right turn pre-drop, riders drop, reaching the max speed of 60 mph. The drop leads directly into the Shock Wave’s two inversions, the double vertical loops.

After the loops, riders go up a small hill and over a brake run before making a wide right u-turn turn that leads to another drop. Riders go up a small hill that leads to a left u-turn that brings them to another drop.

Riders go over a bunny hill, make a left turn, then a final right u-turn that brings them to another small hill, and the final brake run that leads back to the station, ending the ride.

Shock wave Height Requirement

Riders must be at least 42″ to ride Shock Wave at Six Flags Over Texas.

Shock wave Average Wait Times

You can expect a 10-20 minute wait for this ride.

#21 – Roaring Rapids

Unlike flume rides, roaring rapids is a river ride where riders sit in a 16-passenger round raft that floats freely on the fast-moving water. Throughout the ride, the raft crashes into waves, soaking all who are unlucky enough (or lucky, depending on your mood) to be on the side that hits the wave.

Roaring Rapids Average Wait Times

You can expect to wait 10-20 minutes to ride Roaring Rapids.

When is roaring rapids open at six flags Over Texas?

With a height of 325 ft, Superman Tower of Power gives riders a perfect view of the Dallas Fort Worth skyline and Six Flags Over Texas before dropping them 245 ft. On this ride, you will feel weightless in the air, like you’re Superman yourself.

Superman Tower of Power Ride Experience

The ride begins with riders slowly going up and down slightly above the station. During this time, the computer calculates the correct amount of air pressure for the ride experience. Riders then gradually go down towards the station before launching into the air at the maximum speed of 55 mph.

Before reaching the top of the tower, riders gradually slow, creating a feeling of weightlessness. They then drop to around the tower’s halfway point before returning to the top. At the top, riders slow down again and drop around 20 feet before slowly returning to the top, where they stop, giving riders a perfect view of the surrounding skyline.

After around 10 seconds, riders drop 245 ft at 55 mph, then gradually slow down by bouncing them a few times before slowly bringing them back to the station, ending the ride.

#25 – Runaway Mine Train

Runaway Mine Train is a historically significant ride at Six Flags Over Texas because it is the oldest rollercoaster in the park, making it the first rollercoaster at any Six Flags. It is also the first operating mine train ride, coming before all the others in the world. With these accolades and more, the American Coaster Enthusiasts designated Runaway Mine Train an ACE Coaster Landmark.

Runaway Mine Train Ride Experience

Runaway Mine Train begins with riders leaving the station on a u-turn, going through the mine cart storage area, and arriving at the first of three chain lift hills. After the hill, riders move around the track, making multiple turns, eventually going through an underground mine shaft and finally reaching the second chain lift hill designed to look like a rock crusher.

After the second chain lift hill, riders make a right u-turn followed by a left u-turn that takes riders under the rock crusher and around the underground tunnel to the third chain lift hill. The last chain lift hill takes riders into the ACE Hotel and Saloon, where riders see multiple wax-figure cowboys and a bartender. Riders exit from the back of the saloon on a drop into an underground tunnel below Johnson Creek. After leaving the tunnel, riders enter a brake run which leads back to the station, ending the ride.
